This was an ok book. I liked the idea behind it, and with it being (obviously) inspired by the Dr. Seuss book of similar name, I maybe went into it expecting more.I feel that the rhyming didn't feel very natural at times, and in this type of book, rhyming is key. And if it's forced, the reader will know. Though, this subject matter (the medical field) makes it a little difficult to rhyme at times, I'm sure. There are many strange words to work with, so I did appreciate the effort put into making various lines work. A few things felt repeated too often as well, like the length of becoming a doctor being compared to other professions. I understood that this is a humorous book. That came across well enough, but the material was used too often for a short book.
Still, in the end, this was a fun quick book to check out. Just the fact that the author also illustrated this book...using his iPad...made it interesting to check out, alone.

Oh Doctor The Places You Will Go eBook James Chang MD Reviews
My daughter-in-law came over telling me she had gotten this book for my six year old granddaughter and she thought I might like it. It was free so I got it. Although it is written in the style of Dr Seuss and has colorful pictures, it isn't appropriate for that age. At least the child hadn't read it yet and neither had her mother.
As an adult who knows something about the trials and tribulations on the way to becoming a physician, I found it mildly amusing. Actually, I got a couple of chuckles out of it. But there isn't much to it in the long run. But, hey, it's free. What have you got to lose?
Just terrible, please don't waste your time on this book. I was hoping for a funny twist and it was just lame.
Its cute and gets a chuckle or two, with nice illustrations making use sometimes of modern culture. Relatively brief.
Where it really shines is the inside scoop it seems to give on what you can expect (or be surprised by) if you decide to become a doctor. I have just recently begun to give serious consideration to this option, so for me this book was 5 stars.
The end of this book also mentions the author's desire to help people becoming doctors with their personal finance understanding, and links to a blog dealing with the subject. A personal finance blog tailored for an individual profession's issues could be worth a look for those in the field or just considering.
I'm guessing the ones that will find it the most humorous will be those that have lived through it to some degree.
A very amusing little book with some funny illustrations--renders very well on the cloud reader. (I did not try it on the e-Ink reader). This was a great freebie--my only quibble would be the spelling of the word pus (vs puss). I do recommend this for my medical friends! Definitely gets a few snorts of laughter.

Really funny and creative book written by medical doctor James Chang. The themes are medically oriented and may not be appropriate for young children. Also, check out Chang's web site poorMD.com. He has posted a lot of very interesting and funny cartoons there. Highly recommend. Another recommendation I have for medical students is the House of God by Samuel Shem.
The House of God
I like many other doctors before have lived this story. There are years of tests, hours and hours spent in the hospital away for friends and family, and at times you feel like you have lost all faith in humanity. But I get up and go to work each day because I chose to dedicate my life to serving others, because I do not know the day when someone who is really sick will walk into my clinic or ED and will be alive later that day because I came into work. Medicine is about making human connections. My best days are when I get to sit and talk with my patients about their lives and there is not pressure to see 4-5 patients in an hour. Almost everyone who goes into medicine has a desire to help others and make the world a better place. Do not let the process of reaching the title of doctor, or the bureaucracy of the delivery of medicine jade you. Love your family and spend time with them, get to know your patients and let them share their lives with you, and above all remember you get to be a doctor because your patients trust you and came to you for help. There is no entitlement just because you are a doctor, you are no better then any other person on this planet just because you are a doctor, your patient must always come first.
This book is so hilariously true! I love it. It affirms that the craziness is real and that we on this road are not alone in the insanity! I recommend this short, sweet poem to those thinking about becoming doctors no matter where they are in the process. It was made in lighthearted fun, but it is all true, so after reading it ask questions of a med student or Resident or newly graduated attending about their experiences! Family members of those (budding) doctors should read it too, and ask your loved ones how it is true!!
